Congratulations to Heyward Incorporated's Steve Rea who is featured as one of NCSU’s student leaders, sharing his own story of leadership during college; and the positive impact it has had on his professional career. This esteemed list of leaders includes former Gov. Jim Hunt, and other civic leaders, corporate executives, educators and athletes. “My time at North Carolina State University was full of great leadership experiences. These experiences served me well into my career,” Rea stated. “I am very humbled to be included in this unique leadership group.”
Steve majored in Mechanical Engineering at NCSU, receiving his BS in 1980 and his MS in 1987. A soccer player during college, Rea served as Student Body Treasurer and also headed the student chapter of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME); the most active chapter in the Southeast during his time. Steve was also a member of the Golden Chain Society, a senior honor society formed in 1926. Rich in tradition, it is the highest honor that can be bestowed upon a rising senior; with only 12 recipients being selected each year.
Rea is also a recipient of The Order of the Long Leaf Pine. Conferred by the Governor of North Carolina, this is one of the most sought after and valued awards a North Carolinian can receive.
