SCORE Charlotte awarded its highest honor, the prestigious “Dick O’ Brien Award” for 2019 to Gene ‘Eugene’ Barreau in recognition of his over 16 years of exemplorary volunteer service since joining SCORE Charlotte in 2005.
SCORE is a national volunteer organization, consisting of active, retired, or semi-retired business executives and business owners. As Certified SCORE Mentors, these men and women provide free face-to-face mentoring to small businesses, including start-ups.
Barreau has over 50 years of experience in sales and information technology, starting with desk top computers in 1985. This included 28 years as part owner of Heyward Incorporated, where he became Heyward’s IT go-to person after expressing an interest in computers. In this way, he kept the rest of the employees productive, even though his main function was sales.
Barreau received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University. He is a registered Professional Engineer in North Carolina.
